The Literacy Coalition of Oswego County (LCOC) is a network of agencies, institutions, businesses, and volunteers with the mission to promote literacy and advocate for literacy services in Oswego County. LCOC works to address the literacy needs of people of all ages. These needs include basic literacy, workforce literacy, computer literacy, health literacy, and financial literacy. The Literacy Coalition of Oswego County is committed to supporting and expanding literacy services so that people can work, our economy can grow, families can thrive, and our community can prosper.

LCOC’s main community initiatives include Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Read to Them, and the Early Childhood Alliance.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books each month to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income. Shared caregiver-child book reading during children’s early developmental stages leads to higher reading achievement in elementary school, as well as greater enthusiasm for reading and learning. Learn more about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Oswego County on their website, or find them on Facebook.

Read To Them provides a new book to each elementary school student in several Oswego County school districts under the “One School, One Book” program. Read To Them educates families and schools on the benefits and importance of reading aloud at home.

The Early Childhood Alliance of Oswego County facilitates cross-sector engagement and collaboration to build a stable, comprehensive, and effective early childhood system of care that utilizes data driven solutions informed by community priorities to support young children ages birth to five and their families in order to thrive.
