The Fueling Futures Program provides supplemental nutrition for any students who attends programming at CiTi BOCES in Mexico, NY.
The program offers shelf-stable single-serve items that are easily accessible to children. This approach encourages students to self-select nutritional items for snacking and supplement.
During the school day, students are provided with nutritious snacks and drinks. For nights, weekends and school breaks, students are provided with a variety of items to sustain them when they are not in school.
With the average free and reduced lunch rate in Oswego County being 59%, and some of the districts having rates over 70%, the need is great. Not surprisingly, Oswego County is also consistently rated as one of the most food insecure locations in the entirety of New York State.
The program is funded by CiTi BOCES employee payroll deductions and grant funding. Additionally, the program is staffed and run by a 100% volunteer group of dedicated individuals.
During the 2020-21 school year the Fueling Futures program continues to expand and provide increased opportunities for students to receive the nutrition they need to reach their full potential.
